Lower Peninsula Area in General

The region encompasses the area between the York River on the north to the James River on the south, extending westward to the Williamsburg/Jamestown area and eastward to the Chesapeake Bay at the city of Hampton. The lower half of this region is an urban environment and densely populated. Despite this, the area offers outstanding angling opportunities and there are pockets that retain a rural flavor. Heavy traffic can be a problem on summer weekends. Plan your travel for weekdays if possible. Motels and restaurants are abundant throughout the region. The advantage this area offers is the availability of nearby attractions like Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Busch Gardens that can placate bored wives and restless children. The Norfolk-Virginia Beach area is just across the James River and Richmond about 1 1/2 hours away by car.
