The region encompasses the land between the Rappahannock River on the North to the York River on the South, to the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, including Mobjack Bay, on the East, extending westward to the town of West Point. Like the Northern Neck, this region is primarily rural with scattered small towns. If you are looking to escape crowds or superficial "Coney Island" atmospheres, you will enjoy the Middle Peninsula. In addition, there are no traffic-snarled bridge tunnels to cross on summer weekends. Anglers will find a wide range of opportunities here either in sheltered creeks, rivers or the open Chesapeake Bay. Mobjack Bay is is a vast area of marshes, shallow grass flats and numerous tidal estuaries that is truly unique in the Bay region. Also, like the Northern Neck, lodging facilities are scattered and limited. Advanced reservations are a necessity from May through November. The region is within 1 1/2 hours driving time from Richmond or Hampton Roads and about 2 1/2 hours from the Washington D.C. area.
